Building Stories: The Power of Architectural Visualisation – TMD at 3DSYMPOSIUM

At TMD, we believe architectural visualisation is more than just rendering—it’s about storytelling, emotion, and the architect’s vision. In November, we had the opportunity to share this perspective at 3DSYMPOSIUM in Barcelona, where we joined industry leaders to discuss the evolving role of visualisation in architecture.

This was our first official speaking engagement under TMD, and an important milestone—not just because it was our first time speaking at an international event, but because we delivered the entire talk in English. This language is not native to either of us. It also reinforced our ability to engage an audience, structure a compelling narrative, and discuss both technical and creative aspects of architectural visualisation—something we’re eager to bring to future events.

An Invitation to 3DSYMPOSIUM Barcelona

First and foremost, a huge thank you to Aldo García and the Winners Daily for inviting us to speak. 3DSYMPOSIUM is an event that goes beyond traditional CGI—bringing together architects, 3D artists, and industry innovators to explore the future of digital storytelling.

We were invited as architects who not only design but also support other architects through high-end visualisation. Our goal? To share how architect-led visualisation can elevate how architecture is communicated, understood, and ultimately built.

The event occurred on 30th November 2024 at MACBA (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona).

One of the recurring themes throughout the event was the growing impact of AI in architectural visualisation. While AI-generated imagery is advancing rapidly, our perspective is that it should enhance, not replace, the architect’s creative process. We’ve already begun integrating AI tools in select areas—such as preliminary massing studies and quick iteration workflows—while maintaining full creative and architectural control over our projects.

TMD’s Co-Founders Reunite in Barcelona

TMD operates from two offices—one in London, led by Ondrej Chudy, and one in Brno, led by Petr Kousal. With our team spread across these locations, the symposium was also a great chance for us to meet in person and step onto the stage together.

Public speaking isn’t just about sharing knowledge; it’s about engaging an audience, building connections, and sparking conversations. This was our first time presenting as a duo, which gave the talk a unique dynamic and allowed us to cover both the technical and artistic aspects of our approach to visualisation.

This was a major milestone for us because we delivered our presentation entirely in English, a language that is not native to either of us. Speaking to an international audience in a non-native language added an extra layer of challenge, but it also proved that we can confidently communicate our ideas at this level. It was a learning experience and one that we’re eager to build upon in future speaking engagements.

Our Journey to Barcelona

The symposium was hosted in the vibrant city of Barcelona, known for its architectural heritage and creative energy.

  • November 28: Petr arrived from Brno.

  • November 29: Ondrej arrived from London in the morning. That evening, we joined fellow speakers and organisers for a welcome dinner—a great chance to connect and exchange ideas before the event.

  • November 30: 3DSYMPOSIUM was packed with insightful talks, inspiring projects, and discussions about how new technologies are reshaping the industry.

  • Evening Networking: A relaxed setting at a private venue, where we met professionals from across the architectural and CGI world.

Beyond the conference, we took time to explore Barcelona—a city that has always been a great source of inspiration for architects.

Sharing the Stage with Industry Leaders

3DSYMPOSIUM brought together an incredible mix of speakers, each exploring different aspects of visualisation, digital experiences, and AI’s evolving role in creative industries. We were honoured to share the stage with:

  • Ciro Sannino (Chaos Academic Partner) – Renowned for his expertise in rendering education, specialising in V-Ray and Corona.

  • Keely Colcleugh (Kilograph)

  • Robert Herrick & Mattia Lusignani (Visualhouse) – Showcasing NOVAVERSE, a Digital Twin platform revolutionising real estate experiences.

  • Constantine Rōbkin (The Boundary) – Pioneering the integration of real-time gaming technology in architectural visualisation.

  • Dagmara Kowalik (The Digital Bunch) – Specialising in high-end visual content for digital marketing and architectural promotion.

  • Paul Roberts (ITOOSOFT) – An expert in procedural tools like Forest Pack and RailClone, essential for archviz and VFX.

  • Cristina La Porta – A visionary in crafting surreal, dreamlike interior visualisations.

  • Vittorio Bonapace – A digital artist who seamlessly merges 3D techniques with fine art.

  • Carlos Neda – A 3D cinematographer known for his cinematic, atmospheric visual style.

  • Laura Piñeiro – Architectural visualisation specialist and educator, bringing fresh perspectives to digital storytelling in architecture.

Sharing the stage with global leaders in visualization, branding, and CGI was an incredible opportunity. Being featured alongside pioneers like these reinforced our position within the industry and opened new collaborations for future events.

What We Shared: The Power of Architectural Visualisation

Our presentation focused on the idea that architectural visualisation should do more than just “sell” a project—it should reveal the architectural intent.

  • Architects bring a unique perspective to visualisation—we understand space, materials, and how buildings interact with light.

  • The difference between marketing visuals and design-driven visualisation.

  • How we integrate tools like Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Cinema 4D, Chaos Corona, and advanced rendering techniques to create compelling, precise, and atmospheric imagery.

Unlike purely marketing-driven CGI, architect-led visualisation ensures that every image reflects the logic of space, materiality, and lighting as an integral part of the design narrative.

We showcased key projects that demonstrate how visualisation, when done by architects, enhances the design process—not just the final presentation.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the idea that there is real value in bridging the gap between architectural practice and high-end CGI.

Key Takeaways and Looking Ahead

The event reinforced our belief that the future of architectural visualisation is about more than just software—it’s about human insight.

  • New tools will continue to emerge, but architects must remain at the heart of the visualisation process.

  • Collaboration is the key to innovation. Architects, 3D artists, and technologists need to work together to create better design workflows.

  • TMD is ready for more speaking engagements. This was just the beginning, and we look forward to sharing our knowledge at future events.

Final Thoughts: Why We Do This

Being part of 3DSYMPOSIUM was an incredible experience—not just because of the stage we stood on, but because of the conversations, connections, and ideas that emerged.

For event organisers looking for speakers who can bridge architecture, visualisation, and technology—let’s connect. Our approach blends architectural expertise with cutting-edge digital techniques, and we’d love to share insights at your next event.

A huge thank you to everyone we met at the symposium, to the amazing audience, and to the organisers for making this happen.

See you at the next one!
